J-1 interns and trainees are expected to share the cross-cultural and professional knowledge they have gained in the U.S. upon return to their home country.

  • The J-1 program is also designed to allow American businesses to learn about the culture and expertise of the participant’s home country. The Host Company will benefits from the skills, knowledge, and experience the candidates bring

  • The Program is not intended to fill the position of a regular staff member and/or to immigrate into the U.S. is strictly prohibited.


  • Your Role will be the Host Company, which is to foster professional exchange. As a Host Company, you will be expected to ensure that the DS-7002 Training/Internship Placement Plan is followed for the duration of the program.

Our applicants’ internship period is longer than those of American Universities, which provides the employer time to develop an intern and makes the most of the experience for all parties involved.

Cost Effective

Employers do not pay a program, visa, or placement fee to participate in our program. Our employers compensate their interns or trainees, but they decide what to pay participants.

Interns or trainees on a J-1 Visa are considered non-resident aliens, your company should not withhold their Social Security (FICA), Medicare, or federal unemployment (FUTA) taxes.

Our services include:

  • – Full Assistance in all J-1 Visa paperwork
  • – Providing interns & trainees with a Premium Health Insurance

  • – Offering 24-hour support throughout the entire program for employers, interns, and trainee
  • – Program monitoring through evaluations



  • Interns are current students or recent graduates of a post-secondary academic institution outside the U.S. that grants degrees or professional certificates.
  • For those who have completed their studies, they must start the internship program within one year of graduating.
  • Interns are permitted to work in the U.S. for up to 12 months, and their field of training must be related to their field of study.


  • Trainees are individuals who have earned a degree or professional certificate from an overseas post-secondary academic institution and have at least one year of related professional experience acquired outside the U.S.
  • For individuals who do not have a degree or certificate, they must have at least five years of related professional experience acquired outside the U.S.
  • Trainees are permitted to work in the U.S. for up to 18 months, unless they are participating in a Hospitality/Tourism program, which cannot exceed 12 months.  Their field of training must be related to their professional experience but not necessarily to their degree.

A host organization must have the resources in place to provide a structured, guided training program to the intern or trainee within a professional environment.
Before training begins, host organizations must also be able to demonstrate that they have the following:

An Employer Identification Number (or Active Tax ID number)
A Worker’s Compensation policy that covers the intern/trainee.

The International Student Company is not able to provide and sponsor interns in the following occupations:

  •  – Pilots or crew members on ships or airplanes
  •  – Sports or physical therapy
  •  – Teachers or educational instructors
  •  – Temporary or staffing agency employees
  •  – Au pairs, maids, baby-sitting & housekeeping
  •  – Elder care
  •  – Camp counselors
  •  – Medical or Clinical work or anything involving any patient care or contact
  •  – Pharmacy positions directly related to dispensing medication to patients
  •  – Veterinary trainees involved in hands-on care of animals
